About Wind Dizzy...

Young in name and heart--but not in life experiences--Wind Dizzy: The music of Suzanna Young fuses profound meaningful stories with sharp wit, biting sarcasm, stellar metaphor, and a soft sensuality, while mesmerizing you with magnetic vocal lullings and explosive melodies. Her playful banter, dulcet harmonies, and sonorous vocal lines exude drama and elegance. Resonant with contemplation and heartfelt hooks, Young’s lyrics draw you in and entrance you. Musically, her foot-tapping beats, that often blend world rhythms with progressive house, are embedded in pungent electronica, acoustic guitars, classical instrumentation, and infectious pop melodies, thus producing a visionary collage that would best be identified as its own genre of music. Wind Dizzy’s sometimes dark and stormy, and other times light and airy, scores sweep us into a whirlwind of captivating and euphoric joy and mellifluous entertainment.

Humming her first original tune in the bathtub at age three (a tune which she can still recall), this Santa Barbara native is at long last coming out of her bubble and bursting onto the music scene.

Like many artists, Young began a classical music training at a young age when her mother taught her some piano basics. She later joined the elementary school orchestra and received private tutelage playing violin. In junior high, she was one of the youngest students at the time to enroll at the Santa Barbara Music and Arts Conservatory (MAC), a program for gifted and talented students, where she focused primarily on creative writing with Santa Barbara Poet Laureate Perie Longo. Through her association with MAC, an exciting opportunity soon emerged, and Young was asked to sing back-up vocals on a professional album, which was to be her debut studio performance.

Young has since enjoyed much success in the studio, producing songs such as “Cigarette” and “Another Week or So,” which earned an Honorable Mention accolade from VH1’s Song of the Year contest. A music marketing supervisor from Song of the Year remarked, “The melodies were playful. The music pushes you forward, inward, outward and through various layers of sounds. While the vocals bring out the passion and energy in the song.”

In high school and college, Young participated as a First Soprano in the Santa Barbara Choral Society’s adult choir and at the University of Michigan. At the latter, she majored in Creative Writing and Spanish. She subsequently took some courses through Berklee College of Music in Boston and grew increasingly inspired to set her poetry to music.

Young’s lyrics can best be described as smartly metaphoric and often comical wit put to catchy, hum-along tunes and breakaway hooks. Her sultry, sexy voice and clever harmonies introduce an innovative fusion of sounds, backed up by a tasty mix of world, alternative, new wave, and progressively modern pop overtones. Her brash and bold poetry, fused with raw emotion and a facetious play with words, redefine the traditional themes of love and relationships. Through her storytelling, we hear a fresh, brand new story every time.

Wind Dizzy, otherwise known as Suzanna Young, took her name from an unexplained phenomenon that strikes her in times of the Santa Anas--strong, extremely dry offshore winds that characteristically sweep through Southern California. In her song titled “Wind Dizzy,” she sings, “It’s all I can do to keep from going crazy /... / Here I am again / So Wind Dizzy...”

Soon everyone will be going crazy and “so Wind Dizzy.”
